　　Adrienne: So, Lisa, you're from Montreal. I think when I think of Canada, I think of cold. Is it very cold in Montreal?

　　Lisa: In the wintertime, Montreal gets very cold. With the wind chill factor, which is the scale tomeasure how cold the wind is, literally, it can get down to minus 25 degrees celsius at night.

　　Lisa: Yes, but it's different than a lot of other countries that only go down to zero because in Montreal you dress warmly, whereas in places like New York or Tokyo or London, maybe you don't dress as warmly cause the temperature doesn't go down as low, but in Montreal in the wintertime, you're wearing hats, you're wearing mitts, you're wearing winter boots.

　　Lisa: Surprisingly, even though it's so cold, there's a lot to do in Montreal in the wintertime. Some great activities are you can go for a sleigh ride in old Montreal. Old Montreal is probably about five or six hundred years old, from around the time that the city was founded, and they have horse drawn sleigh rides. There are outdoor skating rinks, that you can go skating. It's very romantic. You can drive forty-five minutes away and go skiing and go ice-skating or stay in little auberge, little lodges, on the ski hills or close to the ski hills. It's actually really nice and lends itself to a very cozy winter cause it's so cold outside and yet you can get nice and warm by the fire inside.

　　Adrienne: So, what's your favorite thing to do in the winter?

　　Lisa: My favorite thing to do in the winter is probably to go skiing. As I said before, forty-five minutesfrom Montreal is a great ski resort called St. Sauveur. You go up there for the day, dressed warmly of course. Probably you leave your house around seven-thirty in the morning. Get up there by eight-thirty. Go skiing all day. And while you are going skiing you take breaks to go into the lodge where you get hot chocolate or poutine. So, many people don't know what poutine is. Let me explain. Poutine is french fries with cheese and gravy all mixed together so when it's cold outside and you're dying for something warm and maybe carb-heavy because you're doing so much exercise skiing, I allow myself a little poutine treat where I go into the lodge and, you know, get my poutine. Many people don't like it. Many people think it's kind of strange. Normally those people are people who aren't born in Quebec or aren't Canadian, but once you acquire the taste for poutine it's difficult not to order it.

　　Lisa: Yes! Because of the French influence in Montreal there are great crepes so another popularthing to do for apres-ski, which is after skiing, is to go to a creperie where you get a big bowl of french onion soup dripping with cheese and for desert you'll have a crepe, you know, with chocolate in it or bananas. There is something to satisfy all tastes.

　　Todd: OK, Peter, can you talk about your country, Sweden, and what is life like in Sweden in winter?

　　Peter: Swedish life in winter is really harsh, especially, it tends to get pretty cold, especially around December, January, that's when it's really cold. The temperature can actually drop down to twenty minus and so it's something you have to do, is that you always have to go and buy new clothes, new thick clothes in order to survive the winter.

　　Peter: Well, there are many things you can do, especially in wintertime in Sweden is either you go like sled. So in Sweden, in winter in Sweden, you can actually go sledding and also you can go ice-skating, and of course you can also go skiing up in the mountains, which is really popular among people right now, and also for the young people, you can actually go with a snowboard, but usually around Stockholm where I've been raised we tend to do very little things because the coldness actually, it's like an obstacle, because you can't do much really, mostly you sit home and study or you sit by your computer or you just hang around with friends celebrating Christmas.

　　Peter: In Sweden in wintertime, we usually eat a lot of meatballs, which is the typical Swedish cuisine. Meatballs, you got potatoes, and of course we got all kinds of variations of sausages. We got ham and it's a little but hard for me now because I can remember so much and it's been a long time since I was in Sweden.
